Terms of Use & Privacy Policy
Informational Purpose Only

Coast Cast provides marine weather and conditions data for informational and recreational reference only. All data displayed — including wind, wave height, tides, currents, visibility, and forecasts — is sourced from third-party providers and automated models. It may be incomplete, delayed, or inaccurate.

Coast Cast is not a substitute for official marine forecasts, Coast Guard advisories, or certified navigation instruments. ALWAYS VERIFY THE INFORMATION PRESENTED ON COASTCASTMARINE.COM WITH YOUR NATIONAL MARINE AUTHORITY BEFORE GOING ON OR NEAR THE WATER.

Age & Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to use Coast Cast. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction (typically 18 or 19), you may only use Coast Cast with the knowledge, consent, and supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to be bound by these Terms on your behalf. Parents and guardians are responsible for all activity conducted under their supervision. By using Coast Cast, you represent that you meet these eligibility requirements. Coast Cast is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected such information, we will delete it promptly.

Limitation of Liability

By using Coast Cast, you acknowledge and agree that the developers and operators of Coast Cast accept no liability whatsoever for any loss, injury, damage, or death arising from use of or reliance upon information provided by this application.

Marine environments are inherently hazardous. You are solely responsible for your own safety and the safety of all persons aboard your vessel. No data provided by Coast Cast should be used as a primary source for navigation, departure decisions, or emergency response.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our total aggregate liability to you for any claims arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of Coast Cast — regardless of the form of action — shall not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount paid by you to Coast Cast in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) CAD $1.00. This limitation applies whether the claim is based on warranty, contract, tort, statute, or any other legal theory, and whether or not we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

No Warranty

Coast Cast is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that data will be accurate, timely, uninterrupted, or error-free. Tide predictions, current estimates, and weather data carry inherent uncertainty and should be treated accordingly.

Data Sources

Weather and wave data is provided by Open-Meteo. Tide predictions are provided by NOAA for US waters, WorldTides for non-US coastal locations, and estimated algorithmically as a fallback. Radar imagery is provided by RainViewer. Map tiles are provided by OpenStreetMap contributors. Coast Cast does not independently verify or validate any third-party data.

Privacy Policy

What we collect: Coast Cast collects the following categories of personal data for signed-in users: (a) your email address; (b) home port coordinates and vessel preferences if you choose to provide them; (c) saved locations and favourite routes; (d) trip log entries, including location names, dates, durations, and conditions recorded at the time of logging; and (e) emergency contact name, phone number, and relationship if provided. Guest users (not signed in) have trip log data stored only in their device's local browser storage and no data is transmitted to our servers.

How we use it: Your information is used solely to operate your account and personalise your experience within Coast Cast. It is never sold, rented, or shared with third parties for marketing purposes.

Location data: Location is accessed only when you tap "Use my location" and is used solely to load local conditions for that session. It is not stored or transmitted to our servers unless you explicitly save a home port to your account.

Crash reporting & diagnostics: With your consent, Coast Cast uses Sentry (sentry.io) to collect anonymous crash reports and error diagnostics. These reports may include your browser type, OS version, app version, and a stack trace of the error — they do not include your name, email, location, or any personal identifiers. Sentry is only activated after you explicitly consent via the banner shown on first use. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing your browser's local storage or by contacting us. If you decline, no crash data is ever transmitted. We may also collect anonymised, aggregated feature-usage statistics (e.g., which weather panel sections are opened most) that cannot identify you individually. No advertising trackers or third-party ad networks are used; Google Analytics is used solely for website usage analytics.

Third-party services: Coast Cast uses Supabase for account storage, Open-Meteo for weather and marine model data, NOAA for US tide data, WorldTides for non-US tide data, BigDataCloud for reverse geocoding, RainViewer for radar imagery, OpenStreetMap for map tiles, and Google Analytics for website usage analytics (not loaded for visitors in the EU/EEA, UK, or Switzerland — see Cookies & Analytics below). Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We do not control how these providers handle data.

Cookies & Analytics: Coast Cast uses Google Analytics to collect anonymised data about how our website is used (pages visited, session duration, browser type, and approximate location). Google Analytics sets cookies on your device (including _ga and _gid) to distinguish users and sessions. Google Analytics is not loaded for visitors whose browser reports a timezone in the European Union / EEA, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland — in those jurisdictions, Coast Cast sets no analytics cookies and transmits no data to Google Analytics, in line with the ePrivacy Directive and GDPR. For all other visitors, this analytics data is aggregated and does not personally identify you; it is never sold or used for advertising. You can further opt out at any time using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by adjusting your browser's cookie settings.

Data retention: Account data (profile, vessel info, saved locations, trip log, routes) is retained until you delete your account. You may delete your account at any time from the Settings screen. Deleting your account immediately and permanently removes all associated data — your profile, saved locations, vessel info, trip log, routes, and login credentials. Deletion is processed instantly and completely through our secure server-side system. This action cannot be undone. Trip log and route data stored on your device (guest users) is retained until you clear your browser data. Crash report data submitted to Sentry is retained by Sentry in accordance with their own data retention policy (sentry.io/privacy). You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us at coastcastmarine@outlook.com. We will respond to verified requests within 30 days in accordance with applicable law.

Your rights: Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to withdraw consent. Canadian residents have rights under PIPEDA. EU/EEA residents have rights under the GDPR. California residents have rights under the CCPA. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at coastcastmarine@outlook.com.

Security & breach notification: We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information entrusted to us, including encryption in transit and access controls at our storage provider. However, no online service can be guaranteed fully secure. In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify affected users and the relevant supervisory authority without undue delay, and in any case within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach where required by applicable law (including Article 33 of the GDPR). Notifications will describe the nature of the breach, the categories of data affected, likely consequences, and the measures taken or proposed in response.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Coast Cast and its developers, operators, and affiliates from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or relating to your use of the application, your violation of these Terms, or your reliance on any data provided by Coast Cast.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of New Brunswick, Canada, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of Coast Cast shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New Brunswick, Canada.

Copyright & Intellectual Property

Coast Cast respects the intellectual property rights of others. Map data is provided by OpenStreetMap contributors under the Open Database License; radar imagery is provided by RainViewer under their terms of use; weather and marine model data is provided by Open-Meteo, NOAA, and WorldTides under their respective terms.

If you believe that content displayed or used within Coast Cast infringes your copyright or other intellectual property rights, please contact us at coastcastmarine@outlook.com with (a) a description of the allegedly infringing material and its location within Coast Cast, (b) your contact information, (c) a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorised, and (d) a statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information provided is accurate and that you are the rights holder or authorised to act on their behalf. We will review good-faith notices and respond as soon as reasonably practicable.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unlawful, void, or unenforceable for any reason, that provision shall be deemed severable from these Terms and shall not affect the validity and enforceability of the remaining provisions, which shall continue in full force and effect.

Entire Agreement

These Terms of Use and Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement between you and Coast Cast with respect to your use of the application and supersede all prior or contemporaneous communications, representations, or agreements, whether oral or written.

Changes to These Terms

These terms may be updated from time to time. Continued use of Coast Cast after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. The current version is always available within the application. A web-accessible copy will also be available at coastcastmarine.com once that domain is live.
